Custom updates, once created, cannot be revised or edited. Sometimes mistakes in the custom update are revealed during testing, and it would cut down on work to be able to edit the custom update instead of creating it again from new.
Comments: You are right, changing files of an update is impossible with WSUS. Revising an update, only allow you to change metadata, not files. In WPP V2, you will be able to create a supersedes update from a custom update already published.
