New Post: Java 7u67 Deployment

After working for months trying to get Java to go out via WSUS, here's what I came up with. I tried using the documentation with Package Publisher along with things I'd found through Google. None worked.

Here's what is working. Of course, your mileage may vary.

I extracted the MSIs using 7-Zip. Since it's recommended that whatever you're packaging goes in the same directory as the Packager files, I renamed the MSI with an x86 or x64 suffix (Java 7-67_x64) and put them both there. I made appropriately folders for the Data1.cab files to keep them separate.

In WPP, I selected Create an update, selected one of the MSIs, and selected the appropriate additional file in the folder; checked Reverse Rules at Package Level.

On the next screen, I created a Processor Rule; selected ia64 and Reverse Rule (so both x86 and x64 would install on x64 systems), and again selected Reverse Rules at Package Level.

It's as simple as that, and it's working without users knowing about it.

I've done the same with QuickTime even though there's only one version, but putting the secondary file in a folder. And using the Shockwave MSI also works by itself.
