Commented Issue: Settings from previous release are not kept [39]

When using a new release, settings from the previous release are overwritten by those from the new release.
Comments: It took one line to read an information from the settings and two lines of code to save it. Reading/writting in the registry is mush more complicated. In addition, I seem remember that Microsoft discourages to write application settings in the registry.
