New Post: Will SCCM 2012 see packages created with WPP?

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to the the topic of managing 3rd party updates.

Here's a short description of my environment:
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • SCCM 2012 R2
  • WSUS Version 3.2.7600.226
  • approx. 600 Windows clients and servers (XP, W7 x64, Server 2008 R2)
We deploy all our software via SCCM to our clients, even Windows Updates (which come out from WSUS into SCCM).
Now I'm looking for a possibility to import 3rd party software updates (especially Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader 11, others might follow) into SCCM.
I already read about System Center Updates Publisher (SCUP) for SCCM, WSUS Package Publisher (WPP) and Local Update Publisher (LUP).
The problem is the decision which tool might be the right for my purpose.
I have seen on the one hand that SCUP supports Adobe update catalogs and import them via WSUS into SCCM. That's nice. But can I create own catalogs with SCUP?
On the other hand I have seen that with LUP and WPP I can create own Update catalogs based on msi, msp and exe files. This seems good for me. But will they be imported into SCCM after they are imported into WSUS? Or do I have to deploy these updates via Group Policy?

Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Regards,

Michael
