Edited Issue: version error after loading Microsoft KB3013488 or KB3013769 [247]

I get the following error when Wsus Package Publisher starts on my Windows 8.1 workstation "Server version is different from console version. You won't be able to publish/revise updates."

Clicking help->about revealed:
Release: 1.3.1411.9
Server Version: 6.3.9600.16384
Console Version: 6.3.9600.17477

I have attached the screen dump.

I did not get this error until I loaded Microsoft patch "December 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2" KB3013769 on the workstation. Loading the same Microsoft patch on the Windows 2012 R2 Wsus server did not fix the issue. However Wsus Package Publisher runs fine on the server.

Further investigation revealed that Microsoft patch "December 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2" KB3013769 includes Microsoft patch "Long wait to reset WSUS server when you import CSA files in Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012" KB3013488. This patch updates several Wsus files and may break the server version detection.

This mean that computers didn't report to this Wsus server for this update

Well i think the reporting is not configured correctly on my server because i dont get a Report/Status for any update :)
But the Windows Updates are installed without problems so i don't know why the Adobe Flash is not installed or even shown in the Windows Updates from the Client.

Are you sure that computers pull updates from your Wsus and not from Microsoft Update ?

Hello DCourtel,

thanks for Your reply.

You are right because the certificate is self-signed. Ok, I keep that in my mind when migrating WSUS again.

Best regards to the WPP-Team

Has anyone been able to publish Quicktime updates via WPP?

Admittedly I am new to WPP but I have been able to publish Adobe Reader/Flash player and Java 8.31 via WPP without issue using the guides on this site.

I am at my wits end with Quicktime. If I publish the .exe file, Quicktime tries to run with user interaction (click next, etc.).

I created a custom msi file with Orca and creating a mst transform file following the guide below (found here). I can get the custom quicktime.msi to install, but quicktime requires the AppleSupportTools.msi to be installed first. Using the guide below, I can deploy my custom Quicktime installers from a batch file and via PowerShell.

Any guidance provided would be most appreciated.
Here is the process I follow to prepare quicktime for deployment. It can be a real trick if you do not prepare it just right.

Prepare the MSI files and MSI transforms for copy to software store

    Download latest Quicktime from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/
Use 7-zip or WinRAR to extract QuickTimeInstaller.exe.
Download and install Orca to edit the extracted QuickTime.msi. You can get orca itself from Microsoft's Windows Installer SDK or get the tool by itself from Softpedia.
Use Orca or Instedit to open QuickTime.msi. Locate the Summary information. This is located under view -> summary information in Orca or Tables -> Summary Info... in Instedit. Locate the Languages: box and remove all languages except 1033.
Save the transformed MSI as something meaningful or overwrite the original QuickTime.msi.
Create a new Transform (Transform -> New Transform)
Make the following modifications to the Transform tables:
LaunchCondition -> NOT BNEWERPRODUCTISINSTALLED: Delete this line, if you don't, quicktime will not install, you'll get an error in the event viewer, and itunes will go ahead and install but then tell you it can't launch because quicktime is not installed.
Property -> SCHEDULE_ASUW: Set this to 0 to avoid iTunes trying to update itself. This is one of the main reasons for me rolling this out with group policy.
Registry -> Find the item that has QTTask.exe as it's component and drop that line. This keeps qttask.exe from running in the background, which you don't need.
Shortcut: Drop Desktop shortcut, Uninstall shortcut, and Readme lines
Generate a new transform (Transform menu) and save it as something meaningful. I've been using the format ProgramName_<version>.mst (quicktime_7_7_2.mst).
Use Orca or Instedit to open AppleApplicationSupport.msi. Locate the Summary information. This is located under view -> summary information in Orca or Tables -> Summary Info... in Instedit. Locate the Languages: box and remove all languages except 1033.
Save the transformed MSI as something meaningful or overwrite the original AppleApplicationSupport.msi.

The command lines are as follows
The current command lines for the software are as follows.

msiexec /qn /i AppleApplicationSupport.msi /norestart
msiexec /qn /i QuickTime.msi /norestart TRANSFORMS="quicktime_7_7_2.mst"

My process is Modified from this process http://www.beyondpictures.com/blog/tech/2009/03/deploy-itunes-with-group-policy.html

I deploy via SCCM 2007 from a network share, but this should also work via group policy. SCCM installs using the system account without errors.

New Post: Custom update - msi uninstall

Hi all,
I'm new to WSUS WPP and I managed to configure install and uninstall of well known products in this forum.

However, I'm trying to do a custom uninstall of a program using msiexec since I don't have msi files for the software to do a regular uninstall using WSUS publish update option

I tried adding registry product code and do a custom uninstall using msiexec /X{Productcode} and follow the same step for uninstalling Java. I also added Msi Productcode manually, but when I publish and go to approval view, I don't have option to "Approve for uninstall".

Anyone have any ideas as to going about uninstalling software with product codes only?

I forgot to mention, if I do

msiexec /X{productcode} /qn

in cmd, I'm able to uninstall the software fine.

Yep. I am sure. Cause only the updates I approved in WSUS are shown and installed on the client. And i configured the path to the Windows Updates to my WSUS server over GPO. And on the client when i look into Windows Updates it shows me that Windows Updates are managed by System Administrator. So i am really sure that the Updates are pulled from WSUS server

Hello,
error 0x80070643, is a generic code meaning that the installation failed.

Open WPP and connect to your Wsus server, select the update and, on the 'Informations' tab click on the 'Id' link. This will open a window, open the folder with the GUID and copy all files/subfolders to an USB key. On the test computer, run plug the USB key and run the main file. See if the installation perform as expected.

Le type de groue s'applique aux règles qu'il contient.
Des règles dans un groupe 'Et' sont logiquement combinées par l'opérateur 'Et'.

Dans votre exemple, il faudrait faire les groupes suivant :

Commencer OU
Commencer ET
Architecture x64
Clé de registre présente
Fin ET
Commencer ET
Architecture x86
Clé de registre présente
Fin ET
Fin OU

Have a look in %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log on the clients. In local Eventviewer can you find some message too.

Start with a admin commandline:

net stop wuauserv
rd /s /q %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
del %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
net start wuauserv
wuauclt /detectnow
wuauclt /reportnow
After 10 minutes you can look in the log for errormessages.

For me it looks like there are no important errors. Could i sent you the log file within an email so you can have a look at it?

No, but you can upload to a filehoster or to your dropbox account or to your OneDrive Account and post here the link to the file.

Thanks for the reply. I actually took a look at my package, I actually set the rule so that if the product code exists, do not run it. Do I checked "reverse rule" to flip the condition. Now it works perfectly.
