I am using the msi because it allows you to create a rule using the product ID to see if the update is already installed. Perhaps you could try that option. For what it's worth, I've had a similar problem with other updates that do not have detection rules.

For what it's worth, I've had a similar problem with other updates that do not have detection rules. Is it only the update created on the .msi file that allows for software installation detection? In the downloaded .pdf documentation "Installing Java 7u21 Without Java Auto Updater.pdf" it is not mentioned, and I suppose that is not necessary to grab the .msi from the .exe, since the signature string is inserted in the published update... Or?
Thank you very much

Where is the MSI Product Code stored in the PC? Isn't it in the registry? Cause I have searched entire registry and couldn't find the code ”26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83217021FF” - is this the code for Java 7 Update 51 (x86)? Honestly, I am out of clues and ideas... :(

You should be able to do a fresh install with the MSI. Here are the directions I've been using:http://wsuspackagepublisher.codeplex.com/discussions/462519
Don't use the product ID in these instructions; make sure to grab the new one for the u51 update. If you aren't sure how, let me know.

OK, it looks like the last 4 digits (before ”FF”) is the version/ subversion/ sub-subversion. So, I have to Revise, changing the code from ”26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F8321__7021__FF” to ”26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F8321__7051__FF”.
And now I confirm that everything is fine! :)
So, for everyone, the MSI product code changes from update to update, if you create the update as I did, meaning following the .pdf from documentation, do not just ”Copy-Paste” the MSI Product Code found in the .pdf, adjust it as described above.
Good luck everyone!

PS I guess it is better for this matters (ie finding, using the WSUSPP, the MSI Product Code of every app needed to be deployed etc.) to be included in the documentation... I realize that I have lost 4 full working days and some more extra-time (not payed, unfortunately) to figure all this out. Though, I don't forget this is a free product, and I really and fully thank a lot to the developers for it.
GREAT WORK, GUYS!!! (!)

You can also find the product code using ORCA or with the MSI viewer built into wsuspp.

New Post: Setup as MSI or Update Catalog
Hi there,
how about releasing as MSI file aside ZIP to package that updates with WSUS-PP?
Better, how about releasing an update catalog to use WSUS-PP to update itself?
Thanks,
Alex

New Post: Need help to deploy Adobe Reader 9.3.3 to Client Workstation
Hi there,
I have the following WSUS Architecture:
WSUS-Main -> Contains all the CAB files (works together with WSUS-SQL).
WSUS-SQL -> The database needed by WSUS-Main.
WSUS-Servant -> Gets patches from WSUS-Main/SQL so that it can deploy patches to Client Workstation
Client Workstation -> Gets patches from WSUS-Servant because of security reasons.
I am trying to install an Adobe Reader 9.3.3 installer, AdbeRdr 933_en_US.exe, from the WSUS-Servant (which imports the installer from WSUS-Main which has WPP installed already) to a Client Workstation which does not have any Adobe Reader installed. However, I realised that when I run a detectnow after successfully reporting back to the WPP Console, the Client Workstation did not detect anything for me to install. Is there something that I am missing or WPP does not support the deployment of older installers?

I am trying to install an Adobe Reader 9.3.3 installer, AdbeRdr 933_en_US.exe, from the WSUS-Servant (which imports the installer from WSUS-Main which has WPP installed already) to a Client Workstation which does not have any Adobe Reader installed. However, I realised that when I run a detectnow after successfully reporting back to the WPP Console, the Client Workstation did not detect anything for me to install. Is there something that I am missing or WPP does not support the deployment of older installers?

New Post: Client Failed to Download Code 800B0109
Installed application this morning without issue and created package from the document 'Adobe Reader XI Deployment with Custom Settings'. Package creation was successful, and the update shows up on test pc (Win 8.1).
When ready to install - I get error:
Failed 1 update
Code 800B0109 - Windows Update ran into a problem.
When I look at WPP - show update event history - Error Message is Error: Download failed. Status is 'DownloadFailed'.
Any assistance in troubleshooting would be appreciated.

I solved the issue. The user on the test pc had installed certificates as the user account - not the computer. Once certs were in correct location - install was perfect.

Commented Unassigned: Source Code Out of Date [162]
Source Code is a year old and not up to date with current releases. Please update.
I saw a discussion about this, and your mention of GIT not being easy. However GIT is fairly easy to use, especially if you are using Visual Studio 2012 with the Microsoft GIT extension or Visual Studio 2013 with GIT built in. No command line required any more there are tons of GUI clients.
If you are not a fan of GIT see if you can convert your project to TFS or Mercurial, GIT is not a requirement for using CodePlex, as a mater of fact GIT on CodePlex is kind of crappy, if you want to use GIT with an opensource project I would recommend GitHub. TFS is the best source control for CodePlex if you are going to use Visual Studio as your development environment, as it will just work.
Anyway, in order to be an open source hosted project on CodePlex you really need to keep the source in sync with what is being released.

New Post: Can I copy a folder ?
Custom updates doesn't allow to copy a folder. I should add this feature in WPP V2.
You can rely on a vbscript to do that.

New Post: Need help to deploy Adobe Reader 9.3.3 to Client Workstation
WPP don't care about version of installers you try to deploy.
Do you have set the certificate into the Wsus Downstream server ?
Does client workstations report the update as "Not Installed" ?
Do you see anything useful in the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log of the client Workstation ?
