When you use the feature 'Install Pending Updates', the installation is launch on the client and all pending updates will be installed (including regulare MS updates). After that, the client workstation needs to do a detection to see if there is more updates available.

New Post: Own certificate with openssl

I just generated a openssl certificate (4096 bits) as a password protected pfx file.
WPP doesn't want to import this certificate.
I tried to do it directly into the local computer/WSUS storage. Without any problems. Windows imports it. The only difference I see is the intended purposes: it's not "Code Signing" but "<All>".
Does this have an influence?

Thanks for your help.

Have bought for a customer the SCUP catalog from www.patchmypc.com. Can successfully import the catalog into Wsus Package Publisher. Have then discovered that I can import some Adobe Updates. But importing other updates from the catalog immediately fail with the error messge "select, at least, one package". See attached printscreen.

Have then tried to import the free evaluation Scup catalog from patchmypc which contains only one update for the FoxIT Reader. Was able to successfully import this evaluation catalog __and__ could successfully import the update! Importing the same FoxIT Reader update from the much larger SCUP catalog that we have bought doesn't work.
Have then extracted the XML files from both SCUP CAB files. Have then extracted the two XML file sections of the Java Update 51 Updates from the PatchMyPC SCUP file that we have bought and added this two updates to the XML file of the evaluation PatchMyPC XML file.
Could then successfully import my XML file which contains only three updates (2 Java and 1 FoxIT Reader) into WSUS package publisher __and__ was able to import all three updates!

Conclusion: WSUS Package Publisher can not import the updates from a larger SCUP catalog.

WPP doesn't want to import this certificate.
What is the error message ?
WPP doesn't check the purpose of the certificate.
Can you try to do this :
  • Go to 'Tools' -> 'Settings' -> 'Server' Tab
  • Check the checkbox 'Ignore Code-Signing' certificate validation errors'.
  • Try to import the certificate again.
I don't know why, but some certificate issued out by OpenSSL brings problems.

What is the release number of the Flash Player you try to publish ? 12.0.0.44 or 12.0.0.70 ?

New Post: JAva 7 U 51 install

I followed the guide for the 21 update and made some changes along the way....

Ignored JavaQuickStarter and adjusted the msi id for update 51

However when the update tries to install via WSUS, the JAva install screen pops up for you to click next. It appears the /s parameter is not working.

Any suggestions?

I also have the same issue. Adobe Flash 12.0.0.70
Certificates etc installed ok., MSI published to WSUS, Update detected by PC, install starts OK, (create system restore point) but install fails with the 6BA error.

I am installing onto a PC that did have 12.0.0.70 installed via Group Policy using the same source msi

I have a work around (it is by no means a fix). Adobe produce a utility called adobe_uninstaller see http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html .

If you run this utility to remove flash then the install will work through WSUS.

Does that give any clues ?

You are trying to publish Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70 but the MSI product code shown on your screen capture is for Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70.

Is the 12:36PM post a typo?.

I cant spot the difference between "Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70" and "Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70". It might be me, its been a long week.

Comments: > __Conclusion: WSUS Package Publisher can not import the updates from a larger SCUP catalog.__ Well, in fact WPP cannot import from a Catalog that contains multiples vendors. When you open a catalog with several vendors, you can only import from the first vendor. I will correct this quickly.

New Post: Unable to publish updates due to WPP certificate problem

Hi there,

I had used the WPP-Servant to create this self-signed certificate by clicking on "Generate the Cert" button and placed it into "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" and "Trusted Publishers" certificates folder of WPP-Servant. However, after I restarted WPP-Servant and click on the "Connect to Server" button, it displays an error message, "The certificate is invalid. You will not be able to publish updates". Is there some problems with the WPP's generating of certificate? Presently, I am using the latest version of WPP, Release v1.3.1401.04.

Anyway, the reason I am adopting this WSUS architecture is due to security reasons as we do not want our client workstations to have any access to WSUS-Main and WSUS-SQL. Hence, I need to deploy this updates from WSUS-Servant.

Example of our WSUS Architecture:
WSUS-Main -> IP Address: AA.XX.XX.XX
WSUS-SQL -> IP Address: AA.XX.XX.XX
WSUS-Servant -> IP Addresses: AA.XX.XX.XX and BB.XX.XX.XX
Client Workstations -> IP Address: BB.XX.XX.XX
